Seattle - June 2011

Once upon a time Braedon and I went to Seattle with Braedon's dad, Brad. It was sort of our birthday gifts from him, ourselves, as well as our anniversary celebration all wrapped up in one (what can I say, we just bought a house, gifts are a little low on the priorities right now so we have to combine them into one).

It was such a wonderful trip and I am so glad we decided to do it.

Now, I realize this was back in the first week of June - but it's been a little crazy so it took me a while to get photo's to the computer and so forth, and I really wanted to put photo's on this post. So with out further adu I give you:

The Seattle Trip 2011

We flew into Washington on Friday June 3rd around 6:00 PM. We got our bags, get the rental car, and drove to our first hotel to drop off said bags. Our first hotel happened to be in a little place called Mukilteo, Washington. AKA - where I want to live one day.

Seriously. This city had such a wonderful, chill, peaceful, relaxing, townsy vibe to it and I just couldn't get enough.

After we dropped off the bags we drove a few blocks down to some water front - where I promptly fell in love and deemed Mukilteo the place of my future living arrangements. Check it out:

Then on Saturday we packed up our bags (sadly we just had a short stay in Mukilteo) and went on the Scenic Loop - which is a loop... that is very Scenic. So Scenic in fact that when we kept seeing waterfalls in the distance we decided we need to hike to one of them. We found a trail head and thus began our Hike of Wallace Falls:

Oh how I love all the green!!

It really was such a beautiful hike! I love big green forests!

We then continued our Scenic Loop that so happens to go through a little town called Leavenworth! Brad had been talking about this town for a while, saying over and over (and we have to make sure to stop in Leavenworth) and I was so confused to why this city was so special that we had to make sure to stop there. Well that question was quickly answered as soon as we drove up.

Welcome to what I like to call 'Little Switzerland'.

Best Brats Ever. Mmmmm.

There was even a Polka Band (dressed to the 9's in there Lederhosen) playing all afternoon. I loved it.

Then the next Day we all took a trip to the Zoo! I love zoo's. So much. I'll try to not bore you with the many many photo's we took of all the cute, weird, ugly, cool animals.

Penguins!!!
She was so playful!

The Coolest Animal we saw there! ;)
It was a fun day - my poor feet were missing our drastically smaller Hogal Zoo.

Later that night we walked down to Pike's Place - man does that place have energy!

We also took a ferry to Bainbridge Island. Can I just say that I love being on boats, and I love the ocean. So much. :)

The crazy animal from the Zoo followed us! ;)
I found another place that I'd be highly okay with moving to.
I found Sea Shells! :)
On our way back.

Space Needle!

Then on Monday, Brad had to go to some work meetings so it was just Braedon and I for the morning/afternoon. We walked down to Pikes Place again, got some icecream, viewed the shops, and of course - went to the Aquarium!

Such a cute little fella. :)

Pop Rocks!

After the Aquarium we went on a Harbor Tour - it was really interesting to learn some history of Seattle.

Walruses!

We then met back up with Brad for some Dinner and a walk around the Harbor. On our walk we happened to find a little park full of Sculptures and such.

Not sure what this was supposed to be.
Steel Tree

Tubes!

We made our way over to the one and only Space Needle!

View from up top.

Tuesday morning/aftnernoon was also just Braedon and I - we went to some museams and walked around Pikes Place and the harbor again.

This butterful would not leave Braedon alone and all the kids
thought it was the coolest thing ever.
It was such a wonderful trip - I've always wanted to go to Seattle and I'm so glad that I finally have. Hopefully one day we can go back. Or just up and move to cute little Mukilteo. La sigh.

On our flight out of Washington - Mt. Rainier.

Oh and ps. It only rained once - on Tuesday, for 1/2 hour when we were in our hotel packing our bags.

Who goes to Seattle and doesn't get rained on!?

The girl who loves rain more then anything, apparently.

So odd.

Quicky

It's Friday. That deserves some celebration. Care to join me?

*Dances*

(I hope you really danced at your computer like I did).

- Tonight is the 5 year High School Reunion. While I quite enjoyed my High School days, and even reminisce about the fun times I had there. I don't particularly like the idea of going back... I like where I'm at. I like moving forward. I like not being in High School anymore... 5 year's is just too soon for me. We'll see how I'm feeling when the 10 year comes around. But for those going - good on ya and I hope you have fun and see the people you actually want to see (and not those that we all know you secretly really don't want to see).

- Instead, tonight Braedon and I are going on a date. I'm not exactly sure what yet, but it's a date and that's all that matters. With the remodeling of the house and weekend trips we've been having, we haven't been on a date for awhile. I'm excited to get back into our Friday Night dating ritual. :)

- We had some friends over last night. Kara and Chant and there three cute kids. Oh how I love this family. We made home made pizza, talked, and played outside in the grass and the sand volley ball pit (conveniently located out our back door). It was so much fun.

- My sister Melissa is having her first Family Baby Shower this weekend. It's so crazy to me that my first little nephew could be here in a month! So excited to add a boy to the mix. :)

- Life is good. Like. Really good.  I have a wonderful husband who loves me, cares for me, and laughs at my stupid jokes. I have wonderful family that are not just family, but my friends. They are such a huge support in all I do. I have the best and most awesome friends anyone could ask for. I have a house that can see the sun rise and the sun set. I have a job. I have a mini cupcake pan. I have books, and fun, and laughter.

What more could a girl want?

Life really is good. :)

Happy Weekend Interents!

Summing Up.

So yesterday Braedon and I were having a conversation and I was trying to explain a certain movie to him. This movie happened to be a chick flick and my explanation came out like this:

"It's the one where the one guy almost get hit's by a train and goes in a coma and the girl falls in love with his brother."

After Braedon stared at me blankly for a few seconds I replayed the words back in my head and started laughing. This movie sounded completely ridiculous when so summed up (granted most chick flicks are more then a little ridiculous anyways, but that's besides the point). This got me to thinking of other chick flicks and how they all sound ridiculous when you try to sum them up in a few sentences.

Any guesses to what Chick Flick I'm referring to above? I know my sisters know it! It's While You Were Sleeping.

Source

We then fell into a game where I would summarize a chick flick in a few sentences or less and Braedon would try to guess which one it was. I enjoyed myself so much I thought I'd try this game on the blogsphere. (Plus I just so happen to be bored, so I figured why not?)

First I'll post the summary's and then at the end of the blog I'll put the answers. See how many you get and let me know!

1. This girl owns a book store and this dude owns another book store. And his bookstore is better then hers so they hate each other but then they wright E-Mails to each other and fall in love.

2. This girl has a major crush on a celebrity and she gets to go on a date with him which makes her fall in love with her best friend instead.

3. This girl loves her boss but then her boss loves her sister and they get engaged. This girl also loves weddings but then she meets this guy that writes stories about people's weddings and the girl doesn't like him. But he writes a mean story about the girls sister and the girl falls in love with him and they get married instead.

4. This guy goes back in time and bumps into a duke and then they both end up going forward in time where the first guy's ex-girlfriend falls in love with the duke so she goes back in time to be with him.

5. This couple falls in love and get's old and she doesn't remember anything so he reads his journal and she remembers for like a minute and then they die in their sleep together.

6. There is this really mean boss and this super nice assistant and the boss is gonna be deported so she blackmails the assistant to get engaged. They go to Alaska for their fake wedding but break it off, because they fell in love for real. They then got re-engaged once they get back to New York.

7. There is a girl that get's engaged a lot but always run's away before the real deal, until she meets someone she really loves. Only she does run away from him. But then she comes back and proposes to him and they get married.

8. A girl hears a guy on the radio and thinks he's super awesome so she flies to where he lives to tries and meet him but she then chickens out. The guys little boy runs away to New York and goes to the empire state building where once the guy get's there to take him back home they all happen to bump into the girl Instant fall in love.

9.  There is a girl with a lot of sisters, her favorite sister falls in love with a guy whose friend is a total jerk. This jerk breaks sister and guy up but later helps them get back together making the original girl realize that she doesn't hate him but in fact loves him.

10. This wedding planner woman almost gets run over by a dumpster and get's saved by cute doctor guy. Doctor guy happens to be a client she's planning a wedding for. They fall in love and he leaves fiance to be with her.

We'll leave it at ten. Now see how you did!

Answers:
1. You've Got Mail.    2. Win a Date with Tad Hamilton    3. 27 Dresses    4. Kate and Leopold    5. The Notebook
6. The Proposal    7. Run Away Bride    8. Sleepless In Seattle    9. Pride and Prejudice    10. The Wedding Planner.

Neighbors

I've been getting a lot of questions about how our neighborhood is and especially our neighbors. I thought I'd write a post to explain a little more elaborately then "Good" or "Quiet".

First off. There are apparently at least two unspoken rules for this neighborhood that Braedon and I were not informed of. Having been here for a few weeks now I think I'm starting to pick up on them.

Unspoken Rule #1: After 9:30 PM all children and mostifnotall other people will be indoors and out of site.
Unspoken Rule #2: After dark - all lights in all houses will be turned off and everyone will go to bed.

Seriously though. We went for a stroll after dark the other night and no lights were on - besides ours. Our house was standing alone, a blaring beacon of light. Also, no one else could be seen out and about as well. This isn't the first time this has happened either. On multiple occasions I've noticed that our lights are the only ones on within eye distance. And no this neighborhood isn't an old neighborhood - there are many young families and children and singles and so forth. Apparently it's just full of many young families and children and singles that either A) like to conserve energy and not use lights. B) are too poor for actual light bulbs. C) like to go to bed right after dark. D)  seriously concerned about light pollution in West Jordan. or possibly E) are part of a secret society that can see in the dark.

I like to go with E - secret societies sound a lot cooler then responsible people that go to bed at an early hour.

Which brings us to our immediate neighbors.

There are 4 townhouses to each unit. We are currently in one of the middle ones. To be more exact - when you are looking at the unit we are the 2 townhouse in from the left. I tell you this to give you a better understanding of those around us.

Let's start with those that are to the right of us. To our immediate right we have what Braedon and I have deemed 'The All American Family'. This family consists of a man and a woman living together with 2 teenage children - one boy and one girl. The man of the house is almost always quietly working on his huge truck in the driveway. They seem friendly enough and while we don't know them well enough to feel comfortable going over for dinner, I know that I can go over to borrow a cup of sugar if need be.

Moving on to the right of the 'All American Family' we have what we call 'The Frenchies'. Now we don't mean this in any derogatory or mean way - but in the fact that they literally speak French and as far as we can tell/understand come from France. Thus 'The Frenchies'. It doesn't help their cause by also having a cute little french poodle running around with them (which I find all sorts of ironic). They too seem nice enough. I suppose they could have been spouting off curses and threats rather then trying to explain they don't speak English like we supposed, but I choose to believe the best in people. :)

That leaves us with the tenants to the left of us. First let me give you a little back story. As we were starting to work on this house we noticed the first couple of days that we never saw anyone go or come from the house to our left. First we though - maybe we are just happening to miss these particular neighbors. Then as time went by we still never saw or heard anyone to our left. We then surmised - the house must be vacant. We checked the outside - bushes were slightly overgrown on the porch, lights were pitch black (and it wasn't quite full dark yet so I know it wasn't just because of Unspoken Rule #2), and all was quiet. We shrugged and dismissed the house.

Then the weirdness started to happen.

Two days later - the bushes were trimmed back. A day after that new flower pots with brightly colored flowers were now nestled neatly on the porch. The next day one light in the house was on. The next day a different light was on and some blinds that were once closed were now half way open. This kept happening while we worked on our house, but through it all we still did not see anyone or hear a sound. We even once pulled up as a pizza delivery guy was pulling away from the house - but still no glimpse of the tenant in sight.

It was at this point we starting calling this particular neighbor 'The Ninja'. (More specifically 'The Ninja that apparently likes Pizza', but we'll just stick with 'The Ninja' for short.)

The Friday before we moved I thought it would be nice to talk to 'The Ninja'  to let them know that their driveway might be blocked for an hour or so when the moving truck came the next day. I walked over to see some lights on in the house and a window open upstairs. I thought I was in luck to finally see this mysterious Ninja.

I rang the doorbell and heard faintly from the inside a 'ding-dong!'.

I waited.

I decided to try a timid knock (give me a break - have you ever knocked on a Ninja's door before? It's not to be taken lightly).

I waited some more.

I rang the doorbell, waited, knocked, waited and rang the doorbell once more.

Nothing.

Apparently the Ninja was not in.

I returned to Braedon with a shrug, thinking if the Ninja was home the next day while moving and for some reason needed to drive a car out of the driveway that we might be blocking, that at least it will be a quick and stealthy death. Ya know. Like Ninja's do.

We then of course moved in.

Fast forward to the Saturday we are out painting our bed frame. We go outside to start the painting process around 9:30 in the morning. All is normal and quiet. We say hi to All American Family Man of House as he hops in his overly compensating truck. I smile at one of the Frenchies as she walks to her car in her almost fashion designer shorts and sunglasses. It was a beautiful morning that turned into a beautiful afternoon.

And then I hear a door open... the door to the house on our left.

I stopped painting. Literally. A pretty, well dressed Asian girl comes out, say's hi (I'm hoping I said hi back - no point in being impolite to a Ninja), and get's into a car.

I run inside to where Braedon was washing a brush out and whispered excitedly, "I just said hi to The Ninja!". I recall the story to him and we both go back outside (nonchalantly of course) to see if we'll have another Ninja sighting again. A little later on with no more sights of the girl I had seen, two tall skinny Asian boys walk out and without and saying anything walk to a different car and drive away.

Where three people came from that we had never seen or heard before... I have no idea.

It was then that I noticed a sign pushed into the dirt of the now beautiful looking flowerbed that said "Party" and pointed inside.

Ninja Party.

Braedon and I looked at each other excitedly and continued to paint our bed with secret hopes of finding out more about this house and it's tenants.

Hours later and we still saw and heard nothing. Nothing!

In retrospect I shouldn't have been so surprised - it was after all a Ninja party. But you would think that we would at least see someone come to said party.

It was after that day that we have now come to our conclusion about the house to our left. It's a sort of Magical Creature Safe House. A place where the barrier between this world and the world of everything cool and magical are so close that said magical creatures (like Ninja's) can travel back and forth between worlds.

(The Party must have been some Council Meeting - and of course we wouldn't see magical creatures if they didn't want to be seen.)

I feel that our conclusion was only backed up by the day we had a slight power surge and then saw a huge black dog run down the street straight from the house next to us. Shapeshifter anyone? I think so.

Plus this conclusion only supports my other thoughts about the neighborhood being a secret society - perhaps it's a secret society protecting all things magical?

My only question is...

When do I sign on?

All in all I figure we could have worse neighbors then a few Ninja's and the occasional shapeshifter. :)

Settling

I can't believe it's August. Where on earth did our summer go!? Oh ya... that's right. Into the house. I get a little sad when I think of all the fun hikes and such we did last year that we haven't this year - but then I remember that we have a gorgeous house that we both love and I feel a little better.

I also feel that an update is in order. Mmmm yes? Yes.

- I finally feel that Braedon and I are settled in our new place. We had some friends over for Braedon's Birthday over the weekend and I loved having people to our house (not apartment) and to show off a little bit of what we have been working on all summer. Plus, I just always love seeing our friends. :)

- Speaking of friends - we also went to Snowbird this weekend with Team Awesome. Can I just say that I've missed this wonderful group of people so much! So glad to be done with renovations and to have a social life again. Love you all! :)

- I love our neighborhood. There is a little walkway that winds around the whole complex and I love it! Braedon and I took a walk on Sunday - barefoot and through the newly formed puddles from the recent rain storm. It was quite, peaceful, and oh so enjoyable.

- I also love that I can see the sunrise and sunset from my house - nothing blocks my view of the beautiful mountains and sky. So pretty. :)

- Braedon and I are going up to my Grandma's cabin with some family this weekend. Mmmmmm. Oh how I look forward to Cabin trips. It's always so relaxing and refreshing. The cabin is the perfect place to go somewhere to do absolutely nothing but what you want - read, play games, hike, skip rocks, read, sleep, eat, read, take walks, play games, and read. Sounds absolutely perfect to me.

- Speaking of Braedon. He is just so wonderful. I just thought I'd remind you all that he's amazing and I love him. Yesterday marks the day we starting dating - 6 years ago. That seems a little weird to me. When I hear people say "oh we've been together for 6 years" I think to myself "holy crap that's a long time!" but it doesn't feel like that for me. I'm so bless to be married to my high school sweetheart and my best friend of 12 years. He always works so hard for us and does so much for me (even if it's something as dumb as running down stairs to get my phone charger because I'm too tired and lazy to do it myself). He spoils me. He gives me strength. He gives me confidence in myself. He makes me smile, laugh, and giggle. He gives me such a sense of peace and comfort that I know no matter what comes our way we'll be okay.

- Sometimes I have bouts of cheesiness that others just have to indulge and deal with.

That's all for now.

Loves and hugs internets!
