Well we have had an exciting unexpected weekend! Let's start with a little back story:
Every year Braedon's family goes up camping over labor day to the same spot (located here). Well seeing as I was due September 13th, we decided it would be best to move the camping trip up so we could still go. Thus we moved the camping trip up to the weekend of August 18th - I would be only 2 days over 36 weeks so we felt pretty safe going up then.
Ha. I should have known my daughter better.
So we went up around 2:00 PM on Friday August 17th - Braedon made sure to have me keep it super easy (aka I sat on my butt eating goodies and reading while him and his little brother set up our tent and unpacked). The rest of Braedon's family (minus Brad who had to work until Saturday Morning) came up a few hours later - including their new foreign exchange student from Belgium Julie. We had a great evening playing games, eating food, and sitting by the camp fire. Saturday came, Brad joined us, and again we had a fun lazy day around the campsite.
Around 6:00 pm everyone decided to go on a bit of a hike - I of course stayed behind to relax and continue to take it easy. I sat by the Goudie Pond and read my book enjoying the quiet - my back started to ache a bit (which happens after I sit too long) so I went and layed down in the tent on our awesome air mattress. I apparently fell asleep as I was woken up around 8:30 when the family came back from their hike. I got up and immediately realized I wasn't feel good. I almost felt like I had food poisoning, but having eaten the same stuff everyone else did this didn't make sense. I ended up thinking maybe it was just the fact that I had eaten too many treats/junk food... either way my stomach was not happy. I layed back down and had Brad and Braedon give me a blessing. In the blessing Braedon stated that whatever was ailing my body would leave and I would be well again. This of course got my brain thinking in two different routes. Either A) I did have some type of food poisoning and I was going to throw it all up and thus feel better. Or B) this was some how baby related and Braedon just doomed me to having the baby in the woods. After the blessing I did feel calmer but still had this nagging in the back of my head of "Go home". I was talking it over with Braedon, deciding what we should do when he asked "Well, what does your gut feeling say?" I responded with a "Get me a pan" to which I got a "Yes ma'am!" as he darted out of the tent to fetch me a pan. I then proceeded to throw up everything I had in my stomach - I'm fairly sure I somehow threw up more then what was actually in my stomach as I have no idea how my stomach could contain so much.
After my fun little vomiting episode I felt immediately better - weak and tired, but so much better. Thinking that I had my answer and that I had just eaten something that didn't like me I calmed down and decided to stay and just go to bed. I snuggled up to our cute pup Spook and started to drift off when I felt what I can only call a 'leaking' sensation. Too tired to think much of if I continued to drift off when the leaking got a bit stronger. Annoyed at this point - thinking I was having some excess vaginal discharge I stood up to go take care of the mess, when all of the sudden the 'leaking' turned into a 'pouring'. Right then Braedon walks into the tent to see how I'm doing as I pull my pants down half way to my ankles and the pouring turned more into a 'gushing'. We stared at the ground, looked at each other with wide eyes, and stared at the ground again. I'm pretty sure I said something to the effect of "Unless I have horrible bladder control, I'm fairly positive my water just broke" and then I started laughing.
Braedon then calls to his mom who is in the next tent over just getting down for bed and she rushes over. Not ever having her water break for any of her four kids she couldn't be positive - but she was on the same line of though as Braedon and I.
My water had broken at 36 Weeks... in the woods.
We busted into action (or rather, Braedon and his mom busted into action). I tried to clean myself up a bit and started walking slowly to the car as Braedon grabbed clothes and other items, and handed poor Spook off to his brother Parker. We get in the car and start the nice 20 minute bumpy drive till we get to the main road - then we'd have a good 1.5 hours until we were even back to the Salt Lake Valley.
I was feeling fairly calm at this point - I felt fine, no contractions yet, baby was still kicking and moving around so I wasn't too worried. Once we got to Kamas and got some service we called Braedon's aunt Kelly who is a RN in the maternity ward - we told her that my water had broken and asked if she felt we were okay to continue driving for 45 minutes to get to my hospital or if she felt we should stop at the Kamas Hospital. She felt it was safe enough to continue the drive but told me to also call my doctor. I did so and they agreed so we just kept on driving.
We made it to Alpine Hospital a little before midnight. We got checked in and they took some vitals and asked me a bunch of questions. It was pretty fun to see people's reactions when we informed them my water broke up camping. I was only dilated to a 3.5 so before they got my hooked up for the IV I asked the nurse if it would be alright if I rinsed off in the shower so that I wasn't all sorts of smokey/dusty/buggy. Luckily she said that was just fine. Showering before hand was great. I still had some ash in my hair from the camp fire, but at least I didn't feel like I had rolled around on a dusty road. After that they hooked me up to the IV and monitors and decided to wait for a while to see what my body would do as I still wasn't having any major contractions. If things were still going slowly around 4:30 they'd give me some pitocin to speed things up.
4:30 AM comes around and I'm only to a 4.5, so they decide to start the pitocin. After being on the pitocin for 30 mins or so I could start feeling a difference, the contractions were coming a bit closer and they were getting a bit stronger (reminding me how much I hated cramps and periods). The next time the nurse came in I asked her when they normally give the epidural (I wanted to prepare my brain as I have an irrational fear of needles). She told me it was up to the patient. Being a bit surprised I then decided that while my contractions are easier and further between and it still being easy for me to hold still - let's get the epidural now so it's ready for when things get a bit more intense. So she decides to wait on upping the pitocin and goes and tells the anesthesiologist. After he finishes up with giving another womens epidural he got in around 6:30 to put mine in. I made Braedon hold my hand as I started to make the whole experience worse in my head. What a let down - it barely even pinched. All those nerves for nothing (not that I'm really complaining). A few minutes later my lower half starts to go tingly and while I could still tell when I was having a contraction that's about as far as it went. Aka: epidural = best idea ever. I was finally able to get a few good cat naps in and relax a bit more - knowing that when it came time for the real labor, I was ready (and niiiice and drugged up).
Braedon's mom at this point decided to take our car for a few hours and head home to get herself a few hours of sleep. I got checked again around 9:00 AM I had now made it to a 7 - I was starting to feel that all the waiting was going to come to an end soon.
Around 11 I got a text from Lori asking if I was at a 10 yet. I hadn't been checked super recently but I informed her that I wasn't and we were still waiting. I also made the statement to Braedon of "I'm fairly sure I would know if I was at a 10". About 30 seconds later the nurse came in to check me and exclaimed "Oh! That's the head. You're at a ten. I'll call the doctor and we can start pushing".
Apparently I wouldn't know if I was at a 10. Again - thank you epidural. :)
So I started to push around 11:30. Everything was so clam and relaxed it felt a little surreal and sounded nothing like the room next to me did around 2 in the morning (don't worry, she quieted down when she succumbed to an epidural after 2 hours of screaming). I was still making conversation with Braedon and the nurse and joking around. After pushing through 4 contractions I was informed that I pushed like this was my third child (aka I'm a pro pusher - you've got to have skills somewhere, right?) and that I needed to stop until the doctor arrived. So we waited around for about 20 minutes until the doctor got there - I then pushed for 2 more contractions and next think I new this gorgeous tiny baby girl was placed on my chest.
Rosealynn Dawn was born at 12:24 PM, weighing in at 6 pounds 3 oz and measuring at 19 inches long.
She was healthy and perfect and ours.
It's still a little surreal to me that this baby girl is in our lives - 4 weeks early. I always had a feeling that she'd be early, just not quite that early. But apparently she was ready and wanted to come now!
All in all we are both still doing great. She's super healthy and the love of our lives. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. :)

Things Going On.
I sat down with the intention of writing a good blog - possibly about the cabin trip my family took, or the pool fun we had on the 4th of July. You know - a blog about a specific event in my life. I then decided that my brain was too jumbled to blog about any one thing in specific, thus I present to you some random musings from the brain of yours truly (and some random photos from the phone of yours truly).
- Sometimes I get the urge to put a ‘Yard Sale’ sign in
front of people’s houses because of the amount of crap decorations they
have crowding their front yard.
- Braedon got another raise. He basically rocks at his job.
I’m so proud of him. J
- Because of said raise and since Braedon's birthday is coming up - we decided to get him a Grill. I woke up to this one morning:

| BBQ all over our living room. |
- We have less than two months for this baby girl to make
her appearance. How crazy awesome is that? The app on my phone says she's a
little more the 4 pounds and over 17 inches long at this point. She’s a growing
girl! I don't have a photo of this week yet (33 weeks), but here is last week at 32:
![]() |
| I actually cleaned the mirror before taking the photo this time. Be proud. |
- I love instagram. I understand the picture quality is
horrible. I get that half the little filters are over the top and overdone. I
still love looking at people’s pictures of everyday life (especially when those
pictures include my cute niece). J
- Speaking of cute nieces and nephews. I love mine.
![]() |
| Showing off her Belly Button. She always then has to see yours. She looked very dissatisfied with my lack of belly button right now. |

| Love those eyes of hers. |
![]() |
| Ari loves to put on tap shoes, so Grandma thought she'd put hers on as well. They made a cute tap dancing duo. |
![]() |
| These girls love to read! |
- Once upon a time Braedon and I went to go renew our
drivers licenses. We decided to go before work RIGHT when the place opened
(7:00 AM) in the hopes of avoiding long lines and such. We pulled up at 6:45.
No cars in the parking lot. Perfect. Five minutes later we realized it was the
24th of July. AKA, Drivers Licenses Division is closed. Better luck
next time.
- We did in fact have better luck the next time. Consider our licenses renewed. :)
![]() |
| Us waiting in line before the place opens. |
- I laid on the grass last night. Apparently my skin has
decided it hates grass all of the sudden, despite never having problems with it
in my previous 24 years of life. I was an itchy mess for about an hour.
- I just had to double check that I am in fact 24. Sometimes
I forget my own age.
- Most days I get home before Braedon does. Sometimes (when it's rainy and smells wonderful) we like to wait outside for Braedon to get home. I love that my pup loves to snuggle.
![]() |
- I love to read. My body loves to sleep. Lately the second
seems to be overruling the first. La sigh.
- My cars AC is finally fixed (again). This means Braedon
doesn’t have to die of heat stroke every day on his way home from CrossFit
cause now both cars have AC.
- Before we had the AC fixed in our car we saw a lot of this:
![]() |
| Spook looooves to wind sniff. :) |
- I have a mini heat pad I keep in my purse (compliments of my wonderful sister in law Tiff – thank you again!) and it is a life saver. I really think my office chair might have been constructed by demons. Demons that hate pregnant ladies.
- Speaking of my purse – it’s a mess. I don’t understand how it has so much junk in it. I also don’t understand why I haven’t cleaned it out yet.
- I sometimes will make hand made cards. Now before you get too excited, these cards aren't the cutsie type cards you learn how to make on pinterest. These are made using crayons, markers, and if it's available construction paper (if it's not available then just regular paper). They may look hokey to some, but I figure why spend 5 bucks on a card (that you know will just get thrown away two seconds after it's open) when I can make one and put that 5 bucks towards someones gift instead? Anywho. Once upon a time I was making a Birthday card - when a combo of my lack of spelling skills and pregnancy brain struck:
![]() |
| Don't even worry that I did the 'Bar' part first and then thought: "Oh! I forgot the 'I' - I'll just try and squish it in..." In case you weren't aware - there is no 'a' in the word 'Birth'. |
- My husband is hot. ‘Nuff said.
- My puppy is adorable. ‘Nuff said.
- Last Weekend we watched Braedon's parents dog/house. Rascal wanted a hug - so of course Spook had to get in on the action:
![]() |
| Double Puppy Love. |
- I still have a very serious Snocone obsession. Mmmmm.
- I finally cleaned out my purse. Go me. :)

The Summer Continues...
I figure it's probably time I do another post - one that's not calling people out on social norms and what not.
- I am 28 weeks - into the 3rd and final trimester. That feels all sorts of odd to me. This baby's due date is getting closer and closer and that knowledge sets all sorts of emotions off - like anxiousness, fear, love, and a lot of excitement. In the mean time this little girl is enjoying using my belly as her own personal bounce castle (I'm already getting the feeling she'll be accident prone like me) and kicking my ribs out of place (thank heavens for chiropractors). Annnd of course the latest photo:
- This one time I was playing with Braedon's hair and might have gotten a bit carried away. I'm the best hair person ever.
- I love summer mostly because of summer evenings/nights. Braedon and I will take Spook on a walk down a path by our house that leads to this huge open park. I then will enjoy watching Spook and Braedon play and chase each other. Nothing beats a beautiful summer evening watching my boys run around. :)
- My birthday was super relaxing. We had a picnic, got my favorite treat (SNOASIS!), and came home to snuggle to a movie. It was excellent.
- The day before Fathers day Braedon and I took his dad out for lunch at a Mexican place called Los Cucos (really good!) and then to see the Avengers for his Fathers Day gift. Then later that day we went up the canyon with the rest of the family for campfire dinner and games. It was a good day!
- Once upon a time I stopped by Wal-Mart to pick up some groceries. I was so proud of myself for how quickly I got everything and into the check out line (seriously I was so proud I even texted Braedon of my awesome success). Then, of course I get stuck being the worlds most dis-organized couponer that's ever graced this earth. I was so bored and annoyed waiting for her to sort through her 7 (I repeat - SEVEN!) different newspaper ad's while simultaneously taking off her glasses (and then having to re-put them back on after a two minute search, only to locate them hanging from her neck again), all while NOT finishing pulling out the rest of her items from her cart - that I took these lovely photos:
- Braedon had a pretty brutal workout yesterday that involved (but was not limited to) him setting/resting a heavy bar across his shoulders resulting in some nice bruising.
- The heat is for sure starting to get to me - I've been coping with getting a Snoasis whenever possible and by having two fan's going at night. I never would have though I would be the one to sleep with no blankets while Braedon is all wrapped up. I'm hoping to be able to hit the pool this weekend... that sounds lovely.
Welp - I think that's all I've got for now. Till next time!
Love and hugs. :)

The What Not's
Today’s Blog Post is brought to you by the Letter ‘P’ and
the number ‘6’, as this is apparently an educational blog (though you would
have thought that most of this was just plain common sense).
I bring to you an abridgment of something I feel I should title:
“What and What Not to Say/Do to A Women, Especially Those of the Pregnant
Variety”.
Now, before I start I want to take a moment to make clear to
the general population that I absolutely adore being pregnant. I really do.
While yes there are some things I could do without (aches and pains), overall
it’s an amazing and humbling experience that I feel so privileged to have. I
love being the sole provider for my little girl, feeling her kick/move, seeing
the changes in my body and attitude. It’s an incredible journey and very
special to me.
Now with that being said…
I’m not exactly sure what it is about being pregnant that
all of the sudden make’s it alright for people to break
(crush/shatter/demolish) all social norms.
What do I mean by social norms? I’ll give you some examples:
Normal: Asking someone if they like watermelon.
Not Normal: Asking someone if they ate an entire watermelon
whole (all the while staring at their belly).*
or
Normal: While standing in the ice cream section of the store
commenting to a stranger that ice cream is delicious. Or simply remaining
silent.
Not Normal: While standing in the ice cream section of the
store commenting that no one loves ice cream more than a pregnant lady and
continue to laugh hysterically while exclaiming ‘don’t eat the whole store!’.
**
See? Social norms. Things that you would think most people would just know by
instinct not to do/say. But like I said earlier, apparently there is something
about being pregnant that just makes all common knowledge leave a person’s
head.
Thus I feel I must take it upon myself to educate the
populace (though I apparently am not the first to try – all you need to do is
google ‘things not to say to a pregnant lady’ and you can have all the reading
materials you need for a lifetime).
Let’s begin.
- “You’re going to explode!” – Again you would think it was common sense not to say something along these lines, but I have seen/heard this countless times. Tell a pregnant lady she looks like she is going to explode and she will – whether by yelling at you or breaking down, she will explode (it just may be in her bed later that night).
- “Well aren’t you tubby!” – This is never okay to say to anyone. Pregnant or otherwise. You may feel you are being funny and making a joke but trust me – it’s not a joke to the emotionally tired lady who may or may not already be thinking this thought to herself.
- “Holy cow! When are you due!?” – If you got rid of the ‘Holy Cow!’ bit and the look of horror that always comes along with this comment then you would be just fine with this question. If you really are so concerned about the pregnant lady and when she is due, leave the horrified look at home or she may drop the kid right then and there just to spite you.
- “You look just like I did when I delivered my baby!” – Unless I am 40+ weeks along this is not an okay comparison. Yes logically I know we all carry babies differently (some stick out, some carry long) but I don’t know if you know that, thus your comment has either just made me feel large in general, or that I might have a 15 pound baby – both of which I’d rather not think about right now.
- “You’re so big!” – This is probably my least favorite of all because it is said the most often. On what planet is it alright to tell someone above the age of 8 that they are ‘big’? Would you like to be told you are ‘so big!’? I’m guessing not. If you must comment on how large a pregnant lady’s belly is, try instead to not generalize on her overall ‘biggness’ and instead say something along the lines of “your belly is growing!” or “your belly really has popped since last I saw you!”. Basically avoiding the term ‘big’ would be your safest bet. You don’t know how much that word can rock a person’s moral and make them feel like the largest, ugliest thing on the planet.
While I could go on to discuss the many other comments you
should avoid while talking to a pregnant women or a soon to be father and
mother (yes, trust me, we know that newborns don’t sleep and will thus make me
and my husband not sleep either), I’ll refrain
and instead say if pregnant women make you uncomfortable and you aren’t
sure what to say – saying nothing is better than trying to say something clever
that just comes out cruel.
And remember, pregnant people are still people – so keep in
mind this one little rule, if you wouldn’t say it to any other person nor would
you like it said about yourself, don’t say it to a pregnant lady.
*Yes this did happen to me.
**Yes this did happen to a friend of mine.

Tid Bits
Turns out when I’m bored I think “you should blog!” so I
open up a new page and then I stare at that white space with glossy eyes as I
try to sift through my brain to find anything
of interest to write…
and come up blank almost every time...
So you get a bullet list. :)
- First I’ll do a baby update. I’m 26 weeks. Just had
another checkup appointment the other day and all is well and as it should be
(so good to hear). My doctor also said that after my next appointment in 3
weeks (where I get to down a small bottle of sugar water to test for diabetes)
we will be moving appointments to every 2 weeks. This makes me feel like I’m a lot further along then what my head
tells me. So strange. Currently, Rosealynn’s favorite thing is to have little
dance parties – I swear I don’t know how that girl moves so fast in such a
confined space, but I love every minute of it. All in all – things are great
and both baby and I are happy. Now for the baby item that I know is all you really care about – the most current
bump picture:

| Please ignore the dirty mirror... |
- I feel the need to let you all know how much I love my
puppy. I’m fairly sure I take more photos of him then of anything else and I
just don’t care. He’s adorable and loves me and I love him. Nothing makes a bad
day (or even a good day) at work better then coming home to this puppy who is
all a quiver with excitement as soon as he realizes it’s me that just pulled
into our driveway.

| Sleepy pups! |
- We got our first bountiful basket of the season. Yay cheap
fruit and veggies!
![]() |
| So colorful! |
- My birthday is tomorrow (no gifts necessary). I’ll be 24.
24 used to sound so old to me and now I don’t feel like it’s old at all.
Hopefully I feel the same way when I turn 84. I’m also fairly sure that when I
am 84 I will still love THESE (which I got as an early birthday gift):
![]() |
| Frooties!! Mmmmmmmm. |
- Snowasis (now called Cup O Sno) is officially open. For
those that may not know – this is hands down the best snow cone place I have
ever found. They are about 30 minutes from my home… but only 6 minutes away
from my work. I had my first one during one of my lunch breaks this week and it
was DEEEEVINE. Oh how I wish I had one in my driveway. Mmmmmm. Best. Treat. EVER.
It also makes me feel like summer is really here.

Projects
This weekend has been a very productive weekend! We've had a couple of projects that have been pending for some time and we finally finished them. One was finishing making our 'scrapbook' - which we just do on blurb (what can I say I'm all for digital rather then gluing pictures and paper together). The other was the tree for our nursery - it's done!
For any new followers (cause I'm sure there are so many) or those that missed my last post you can see the beginnings of the project here.
We finally finished up some last minute touch up's, got the tree mounted on the wall, and hooks in place! Observe:
The other half of the room is a bit bare right now until the Crib is set up and we get the changing table - but I'm loving how it's all turning out and also loving that it's finally done - this has been a long work in progress.
Here's to finished projects and unfinished projects to come! :)

Spring Things
I've decided I've been a poor blogger over the last few weeks so let's do some catch up (I feel that's what I'm always doing these days...).
First let's do some baby talk - A) For myself down the line to look back on and B) Because I get asked quite often. :)
- I am currently 23 weeks (and some change), or for those that think in a monthly fashion that would be 5.5 months (and still some change).
- I'm feeling our sweet baby girl kick more and more every day - which could possibly be one of the most comforting things to feel in this world.
- She's not kicking quite so hard enough yet for Braedon to feel her (or at least anytime Braedon is around to try and feel her).
- No real cravings besides what I always craved (fries, candy, chips, icecream - you know... basically anything horrible for you). If anything I have more food aversions then normal... which depending on the food is actually kind of nice.
- No throwing up for a long while - yay for the 2nd Trimester! I'm enjoying it while I can. :)
- I've been able to remain pretty active and feel good about my weight gain so far! I've been doing crossfit work out's at home as much as possible. The growing belly is getting more and more interesting to deal with for work outs though, that's for sure.
- We have been working on a project for the babie's room - I'm really excited about it! We are close to being done! Basically we are creating a a tree that will have a bunch of hooks on it to hang her cute jackets, hats, headbands, etc. Originally we started this project for my fedora's, but then decided to change it a bit and put it in the nursery. I'm really liking how it's turning out so far and hope that the final project is as cool in life as it is in my head. Here are some photos of the construction:
- I still suck at getting good photos of the belly off the camera - so to hold any that care off, here are a couple crappy photos from my phone of this week:
There you have it - baby stuff = going good. Now to other updates:
- A few week's ago Braedon and I got to watch out cute niece Ari over the weekend (or rather two weekends). Sadly the poor thing was sick for most of it - but this girl is still super smiley even when sick! I just have to share some of the cute pictures I took of her. :)
- Braedon and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary! This year our anniversary was a much happier occasion then last year (when we found out about our miscarriage). I love Braedon so much - more and more each day! I am so happy with my life right now and I know that it's because he's in it. I love holding his hand, sitting with him, talking with him, dancing with him, anything with him. It's been an amazing two years and I can't wait for the next one (and all the others after that).
- For our anniversary I surprised Braedon by buying an X-Box (wife points!). I've never really been able to do such a big surprise before (usually I am so afraid that he'll end up not wanting whatever I got that I end up not getting it with out consulting or telling him if it's more then 20 dollars - have I mentioned I'm a bit paranoid about money?). But I knew he'd love this and I knew that I'd love having it as well, so I did it! :)
- Mother's day happened to also be on our anniversary - for some reason this made me not even think about getting anything for Mothers day, but Braedon surprised me with a Willow Tree figurine to add to my collection. I thought it was super thoughtful and sweet. :)
- Our poor pup Spook got neutered yesterday. Only one of his little nutlets had dropped - aka the other was growing on the inside of the canal, causing him to need an extra incision to get it out. You can tell he's hurting, but I"m glad we got it done cause leaving that other little nutlet so high up in the canal can be really dangerous. He's pretty good about not licking, but he still gets to sport one of these beauties when we can't keep an eye on him:
- Braedon and I got a hanging plant for our backyard. I love it. :)
- My parents have a little water feature in their back yard - I was watching cute niece baby C and was not quick enough to stop her from full on sitting down in it (aunt award). So we ended up just taking the babies clothes off and letting them have fun. My favorite parts of the video are Ari being a ham in the beginning and baby C pushing Ari's belly button. That girl loves buttons of any kind! :)
- I started painting again and finished one - It's really simple, but I like it. :)
All in all life is going good! I can't believe it's already the middle of May! Before I know it it's going to be my Birthday (weird).
Love and hugs to all!

| Yesterday I was having a 'cute' day. I feel these need to be celebrated and recognized. ;) |
- A few week's ago Braedon and I got to watch out cute niece Ari over the weekend (or rather two weekends). Sadly the poor thing was sick for most of it - but this girl is still super smiley even when sick! I just have to share some of the cute pictures I took of her. :)

- For our anniversary I surprised Braedon by buying an X-Box (wife points!).
